Today Judy is great friends with her ex-husband and her parents have long forgiven her.
'Our relationship jolted everyone as people were not so open about being gay then and Martina was in the public eye. 'I was married for 17 years, a typical doctor's wife living in a very conservative town,' says Judy, who is 11 years older than Martina. Two years later Martina invited Judy to watch her play at Wimbledon. The two women started talking and struck up an instant friendship.
Judy, who grew up in Fort Worth, Texas, had married her college sweetheart Ed when she was 22 and was happily raising her sons Eddie and Bales.Įddie, then 11, was a ball boy at a tennis tournament where Martina was playing. It was 1982 when they met for the first time.
